Tuna and Cucumber with Fresh Dill Puree

This is for those adventurous little eaters who are 18-months or older. I’m sure you are thinking tuna? I never would of thought to feed my baby fish. Specialists say babies can eat fish, including canned tuna, after they turn 6 months. Now, I know a lot of people are concerned about mercury in tuna, which as parents we want to protect our babies. I did the research and according to the American Academy of Pediatrics, a child should eat less than 12 ounces of tuna a week. And honestly, you’re little one will not eat a whole can of tuna. You can introduce a 1/2 ounce serving every other week as a safe way to introduce tuna into their diet.

Tuna is a great protein. And like all good proteins, it helps you grow and can give you energy. Tuna also contains omega-3 fatty acids which supports healthy brain development an can also boost your child’s immune system.

Now that we have that technical mumbo-jumbo talk out of the way, let’s talk about how yummy this puree is. I grew up eating tuna sandwiches made with fresh dill, topped with a thin slice of cucumber. I was excited to test this one out on my daughter for the simple nostalgic factor. I also noticed that this puree goes great on a bed of organic spinach for a protein-packed lunch or snack. Luckily, since salmon is her favorite fish to eat, and she has shared little tuna tea sandwiches with me in the past, I knew she would enjoy this simple puree. And I hope your toddler does too.
