Salmon Finger Food

I came across this fun Salmon-baby-led-weaning recipe the other day with my toddler. The best bonding I think you can do as a parent is having your baby, toddler, or teenager help you in the kitchen. Try giving a job that they can manage and that is age appropriate. When they are just a baby you let them play in the flour or touch and feel the ingredients you are using. This sends signals to the babies brain that teaches them so they are learning while cooking. For toddlers they can pour the ingredients in measuring cups, stir, and mix. The further along they grow, which we all know is so fast, cooking with you will create that connection and bond that will last a lifetime.

With this recipe I noticed my daughter taking an interest in each ingredient. She was especially intrigued how squishy salmon felt to her. I let her watch me puree the salmon in my Baby Bullet, pour the blended salmon in a bowl, and then let her help me add the rest of the ingredients into the blended salmon. I then gave her the spatial and she stirred and stirred till the mixture was all together. Her favorite part of the whole experience was rolling out the salmon into balls and placing them onto a baking tray. I was so proud of her and she was proud too.

What’s great about this recipe is there is no frying – which means less of a mess. Just bake them in the oven and 15 minutes later you have the perfect snack to eat. They’re also yummy hot or cold. Wrap up the leftovers and take them as a healthy snack to the park that you and your little one can enjoy together.
