Do you want to switch up the boring feeding routine that consists of oatmeal or rice cereal? Quinoa puree is a great option to try during the first food trials. I love this alternative because of the awesome benefits quinoa has to offer. Not only is the texture something new for babies. which can contribute to their learning development, but this wholesome grain contains lots of calcium, vitamins E, fiber, and is gluten free for babies who have gluten allergies. Also, quinoa has the highest protein content of any grain.

I have offered quinoa as early as 6-months old to my baby. When you start mixing and matching some of your baby’s favorite foods together, try adding quinoa to the blends.

Quinoa is cooked similar to rice. Usually 2 cups of water to 1 cup of quinoa. When feeding any new first foods to your baby, always make sure you just feed that one type of food for 3 days straight. If you do not see any signs of allergies or rashes around the mouth or hands after 3 days, then you know your baby is clear of an allergy to that food. It’s always good to consult your doctor when starting firsts foods.

Quinoa Grain Puree Recipe

  • 1/4 cup quinoa
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup water or breast milk

  1. In a small saucepan bring the water to a boil.
  2. Add the quinoa and lower the temperature to a medium heat for 7-10 minutes.
  3. You will notice the grains are ready once all the liquid has evaporated.
  4. Let the mixture cool.
  5. Place the cooled, cooked quinoa in the Baby Bullet with water or breast milk and blend until smooth. It will start to get thick so you can blend more water or milk to make a smooth consistency that you think is perfect for your baby.
