Overnight Date Oatmeal

Date puree is one of my favorite alternatives to mashed or pureed bananas. It’s equally sweet and totally versatile, which means you can replace any banana puree with date puree!

My youngest daughter is extremely picky, and has pretty severe sensory issues when it comes to eating. The one food that she loves oddly enough is oatmeal. I’ve been trying my best to create different oatmeal recipes that she likes, without adding too much sugar. This Date Oatmeal was a success, and I know it will be with your little ones too! Plus, there’s no cooking required, and it’s ready in the morning to go with NO prep! Sounds like the perfect breakfast to me!

Overnight Date Oatmeal

Ingredients – Date Puree

  • 1 cup dates
  • Water

Ingredients – Oatmeal

  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • ½ cup + 2 tb. vanilla yogurt
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 tb. ground flax

  1. To make the date puree, add dates to a bowl and fill with water. The water should reach about half an inch over the dates.
  2. Let soak overnight. (You can also boil the dates in water, then puree to speed up the process.)
  3. Once the dates have soaked overnight, add them to the Baby Bullet Blender and puree until creamy. This recipe will make more than enough puree for this recipe, so you will definitely have leftovers!
  4. In a separate bowl, make the oatmeal by mixing all of the ingredients together.
  5. Using a small bowl or small mason jar, begin to layer the oat mixture and date puree, alternating.
  6. Cover and store in the fridge overnight. This makes 2 small overnight oat servings, so you can double the mixture to make more and save for later in the week.
