My 1-Year-Old’s New Favorite Meal

My one-year-old Jake just got his first teeth in the last month and a half (4 at once!) Prior to this, he wanted little to do with any baby food and lived solely off milk, oatmeal with applesauce and pureed sweet potato. Any new foods I tried to sneak into his pureed potato resulted in gagging and spitting out any bit that made it into his mouth. After having one of those smoothie “pouches” at grandma’s house recently, he fell in love and suddenly was all about trying them at home.

So far, this is his favorite combination.

Smoothie for My 1-Year-Old

Ingredients

  • one sweet potato, peeled and cooked
  • one small banana
  • 1 large kale leaf, stems removed
  • ¼ cup of unsweetened applesauce, or a few slices of steamed apple
  • a handful of blueberries
  • water (enough to create the consistency you think your baby will like)

Instructions

  1. Puree until smooth and serve.

The sweet potato and applesauce were textures and flavors he was used to and we were able to hide the kale with all the sweet fruit and delicious sweet potato.

Give it a try with your baby and see if he/she likes this vitamin-packed breakfast!
