Green Bean Puree: First Food

IMG_1721
If you have a 6-month old baby and you find yourself running low on 4-6 month puree recipe ideas, green bean puree is the next one you need to try out. This makes a great one to test on your baby on the tail end of the 6-month mark. I say wait until the end of 6-months because a fresh green bean skin might be hard to puree smooth and needs an advance eater to swallow. Green Beans are also great for when you have a solid eater or toddler. Try giving them the whole bean so they can grasp and feed themselves. This type of feeding is baby led-weaning. It helps their development if they can touch and play with their food. Their mouth is a learning tool so let them explore with their food.

Also, if you want to kick the flu season, and keep baby feeling great all winter long, green beans are known to help prevent flu-like symptoms. It also claims to be beneficial for symptoms of colon cancer, asthma, arthritis, acne, and ear infections! They are packed with vitamin A, vitamin C, folate, calcium, magnesium, iron and so many more.

If you are prone to allergies, green beans are very low on the allergies list. Although when feeding any new first foods to your baby, make sure you just feed that one type of food for 3 days straight. If you do not see any signs of allergies or rashes around the mouth or hands after 3 days, then you know your baby is clear of an allergy to that food. But it’s always good to consult your doctor when starting firsts foods.
