DIY Valentine’s Day Ideas

So, there is A LOT going on in my life right now and money is getting pretty tight. I stuck to the January Money Diet, as we are COMMITTED to moving this spring (play room, play room, play room!) and our dog just had to have a torn ACL repaired to the tune of $4,000. Needless to say, I am looking to get hubs something romantic, awesome, thoughtful and WAY cheap this year. While I tend to go all out for Christmas and birthdays, I have always felt that Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to put on my crafty pants and get my DIY on.

Now, the thing with DIY gifts for our significant others is that you have to be REALLY careful that it isn’t cheesy and that it doesn’t suck. Sometimes. DIY reeks of, well, DIY gone wrong. Like those Facebook posts you see where people attempted a Pinterest idea and it ended up looking like you dragged it behind your car for a few miles? Not good. And definitely not a good gift. So, I went ahead and weeded some of the cool and quirky ideas out for you. In my humble opinion, these are some pretty sensational ideas for Valentine’s gifts for the men in our lives. They are also easy to tweak into gifts for the ladies in our lives.

Here are some of my favorites:

  • Scratch ticket bouquet (bouquets are cute in a flower pot- have the kids paint it!)
  • Cigar and mini-liquor bouquet
  • Socks and underwear bouquet
  • 7-day pill box with a little gift or a scroll with something written on it for each day of the week.
  • Framed map with a little heart drawn on all the states or places you’ve been together
  • Chocolate covered his favorite thing (bacon, jalapenos, strawberries… This is actually a REALLY cute idea; cut strawberries in half, hold the halves together with a toothpick, then dip in chocolate so it looks like a heart. Adorable!!!)
  • “I’m nuts about you” key chain  (super cute and you could give one piece a day and then the whole thing can be assembled on Valentine’s Day.)
  • “Brief Jerky” (OMG! Hilarious gift for the meat lover (and if you have a dehydrator).
  • Cards sent from “love-y” locales.
  • Love bean plant  (Not really DIY, but cheap and so sweet. Some reviews claim it doesn’t grow, but it is the thought that counts…)
