Carrot Hummus

Hummus is one of my favorite snacks. It’s not just really tasty but also super healthy and packed full of protein. My toddler loves grabbing raw carrots and dipping them in hummus. So, I figured making hummus with carrots would be a nice change of pace for both of us. This recipe is perfect for babies, toddlers, and the whole family. Traditional hummus uses chick peas and tahini sauce. I left the tahini sauce out but definitely used the chickpeas. Make sure you soak them overnight before pureeing them. Since I skipped the tahini sauce, I roasted carrots to add a unique flavor, which adds more vitamins for baby and me. I added roasted garlic in this recipe but if you think that might be too strong for your baby, go ahead and just skip that step. You will be surprised how your little one just might like trying this new flavor.

Carrot Hummus Recipe

  • 1 head of garlic
  • 2 tbs. olive oil
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 tbs. olive oil
  • 1 tbs. maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup chickpeas (soaked overnight)

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Chop the top off the garlic and place on a square of foil. Drizzle with olive oil and cover the foil tightly.
  3. Place the garlic on a roasting pan.
  4. Wash and peel the carrots, cut into large chunks then toss in the olive oil and maple syrup.
  5. Place the carrots in the same roasting pan so the garlic is on one half and the carrots on the other.
  6. Cook for 25-30 minutes.
  7. Cool.
  8. Add the roasted carrots, 1-3 cloves of the roasted garlic (save the rest) and the chickpeas.
  9. Using the Baby Bullet, blend till smooth.
  10. Add 1-2 tbs of water at a time to make smoother consistency.
  11. Enjoy the hummus on its own, on toast, or with raw veggies.
