My 2-and-a-half year old daughter has a love/hate relationship with broccoli. Some days she will eat half a stock of steamed broccoli while other days she turns a sour face away and refuses. My husband and I have at times resorted to using her favorite fruit gummy as bribery to get her to eat her healthy dose of vegetables. As she gets older, the bribes have changed to encourage her to eat the broccoli for one broccoli’s biggest benefits: dietary fiber.
My daughter Elle loves to eat cheese and dairy products. We all know how that can turn out. So, we’ll literally tell her, “If you eat your broccoli, it’ll help you go potty.” And after a moment of thinking about it, she’ll open up and finish off her plate of broccoli.
The moral of my story is that broccoli is one of the best and healthiest vegetables you can feed yourself and your baby. And if it takes adding a little delicious olive oil to your puree, consider it a good “bribe” to get your baby to eat this nutritional veggie.
Broccoli and Olive Oil Puree
- 1/2 head broccoli
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Steam broccoli in the Baby Bullet Steamer on setting 5.
- Let cool.
- Place the broccoli in the Baby Bullet with the olive oil.
- Blend till smooth
