The Breakup: Letters Between the Avocado & the Peach

Dear Avocado,

This has been the most amazing summer! I never thought I would meet someone like you. From the first time we crossed paths at that Memorial Day party to today, my life has been changed. I’m really looking forward to our future together!

Love,

Peach

Dear Peach,

Hey, sweetie. Loved your note. But I think we need to have a talk. You know, this summer has been unforgettable for me, too. My favorite was the Independence Day Salsa. I really think our relationship got to a whole new level! But I have to be honest. You’re a summer fruit. And I wasn’t thinking this would go beyond Labor Day.

Toodles,

Avocado

Avocado,

What do you mean?! I thought this was going somewhere.

Love,

Peach

Dear Peach,

It was. And it was great while we had it! Who could forget our Citrus Guacamole? Remember what they said? It was a “match made in heaven”. And it was. People couldn’t keep their hands off us—and frankly we couldn’t keep our hands off each other! But it was seasonal, baby. Peach, you know I love you. But I’m moving into Fall. And I kind of feel like you’re always gonna be stuck in summer.

Love ya,

Avocado

Avocado,

I cannot believe you’re breaking up with me.

Heartbroken,

Peach

Dear Peach,

It’s nothing personal. But there’s just only so many recipes we can do together. Me? I’m a traveling man. Come October, I’ll be hanging with Pear and Gorgonzola on some Autumn Avocado Toast. And every Tuesday throughout the year you can find me with Tacos… and cheese… and lettuce. I swear it’s nothing personal. But don’t worry, baby. We’ll always have our salsa!

Love ya,

Avocado

Avocado,

That’s it. I’m going back to my Cobbler. And I hope you choke on whatever that big brown thing is in the middle of you is. I’ve learned my lesson. Never date a pear-shaped berry with too much mono-saturated fat!

Peach

About Maia Rodriguez

"Military Mom" Maia Rodriguez was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but that was about twenty homes ago. After graduating from Syracuse University with a BFA in Musical Theater, she traveled just about everywhere in the country, lived in a green turtle-like tent for 6 months, toured and slept in the back of her van and even worked in Japan for a year. Then she met her husband who tamed her (ha!) and they embarked together on the adventure of parenthood in southern California where she worked as a professional pirate. Now, two children later, the family currently resides in VIrginia, where she sings for the US Navy as a vocalist. When she’s not mothering, she’s writing music for "Evernight," singing and writing for the Baby Bullet Blog.
