Apple Blueberry Coconut Milk with Flaxseed Puree

I am excited about this puree. I wanted to get a little fancy with my 7-8 month old so I tried adding some of her favorite fruits into one puree. And lately we’ve been enjoying apples and blueberries. Make sure you don’t feed your baby a whole blueberry. I love to steam mine and then blend them because it will make them smooth to eat. Or you can try cutting them into quarter sizes and letting your little one play with them on their tray as they use their fingers to feed themselves. When babies play with their food it is a learning moment as touching can help with eye hand skills and encourages exploration.

What makes this recipe fun is the addition of the coconut milk. Mom, this is your decision if you want to add the coconut milk to the puree but the it makes the puree smooth and sweet. Not sure when to give your baby milk? Consult your doctor of course, but know that babies have a hard time digesting cows milk which is why I think its good to use coconut milk.

Why am I using flaxseed? Because flaxseed it is the perfect natural constipation cure. I like using flaxseed oil vs the seeds. The seeds are hard to swallow and the oil is a nice subtle touch. Flaxseed is a healthy oil, it offers fiber, and other essential nutrients for babies (and adults) that encourages good health, growth and development. I would limit to 3 teaspoons of flaxseed per day. The oil is a more concentrated form of omega-3 fats and likely vitamin E as well. The ground seeds, on the other hand, while not as high in omega-3, do have the health benefits, fiber, and a variety of vitamins and minerals.
